Old-world village with 30 historic houses. Sanun Village, also known as Daegam Village, is traditional gentry village with beautiful scenery, where descendants of the Yeongcheon Lee Clan live together.
It shows Sanun Village gentry’s pride and spirit of dwelling in benevolence and righteousness.
Haknokjeongsa was built in 1750(26th year of the King Yeongjo) for the memory of Hakdong Lee Gwangjun, who had settled here as the first ancestor of Yeongcheon Lee Clan. It is also the place for training scholars.
Haknokjeongsa is located in a wide propitious place, demonstrating the beauty of Korean traditional houses in harmony with Geumseongsan Mountain.
Ungokdang House was designated as the Gyeongsangbuk-do Cultural Heritage No. 374 in 30th Dec. 1999. It brought the excellent view of nature into the backyard by lowering the wall and by making the backyard wide and vacant. It is considered that nature is an extension of the garden. You do not have to move the nature physically inside the house to decorate it strenuously.
Jeomudang House was built 100 years after Soudang House and Ungokdang House were built. The gate is facing to the wide field, unlike the gates of Soudang House and Ungokdang House that face to the road. This gives openness and liberty in arranging buildings. There is also wider spaces between buildings. You can see the change in recognition of women over 100 years of time, as well as the change of the style how to arrange buildings.
The closed school is transformed into Sanun Eco Park attracting young students again. The park consists of many rooms and galleries such as info booth with information on Uiseong-gun’s history, specialty, tour course and local events; first gallery with materials on earthquake, volcanic activity, origin of life and birth of earth; second gallery that displays human evolution process and species of animals and plants; third gallery which shows dinosaur fossils and chronicles; village material room with information on origin of Sanun Village and many Cultural Heritages.
